Thiruvananthapuram
Thiruvananthapuram is considered the most precious jewel in the crown of Kerala and is rightly its capital. Thiruvanathapuram is the only town that so elegantly summarizes the Kerala experience; a visit there becomes a must. Dotted with ayurvedic spas, the holiest temples and museums this town is a pot pouri of culture and experiences.
Padmanabha Swamy
The Padmanabha Swamy Temple is built in a typical South Indian architectural style with a slight yet elegant hint of Dravidian influence. Unfortunately only Hindu devotees are allowed to enter the premises of this marvellous structure that houses a deity so magnificent, it makes the temple come to life. The deity of Lord Vishnu leaning on a serpent is so life like it fills the visitors with awe. If faith is a gift you are yet to receive, Padmanabha Swamy is where you’ll find it.
Napier Musuem
Set in a 19th century edifice, Napier Museum is an architectural wonder influenced by the elegant Indian style and gothic British columns. So well preserved is the display in the articulate museum, you feel like you’re walking through a lost era with bright golden chariots, lethal weaponry and ornate jewellery.
Kowdiar Palace
The erstwhile Palace of Sree Chithira Thirunal Bala Rama Varma is so royal one cannot enter its gates. However staring at it from beyond the gates is an experience in its own right. The magnificent architecture with intricate detailing tells us stories of a time gone by. If your sense of admiration does appease the long gone King, the guard will allow you to stroll on the lawn where royalty did once tread.
Lunch from a local restaurant
Shree Chitra Art Gallery
Shree Chitra Art Gallery is home to India’s finest art collections. Lately, thanks to its beautiful and enchanting displays it has captivated artists from many other countries who now display their art here. One doesn’t need to be an artist or an enthusiast to view the art here. Simply walk in to admire the beauty and share the imagination of some of the greatest artists.
The Zoological Park
Once you step into the Thiruvananthapuram Zoological Park you lose all sense of the city surrounding it. The Zoological Park, the first of its kind, appears to be a part of a lush forest that was picked up and dropped in the middle of a city. As you walk the trail you are greeted with snakes and many small playful animals. The animals here are not only captivating but in the pink of health thanks to the lush surroundings.
Shanghumugham Beach
Shanghumgham is a pristine yet vivacious beach complete with the crystal sea. Dotted with many play areas, the beach offers your little ones some time away while you enjoy the warm sun romancing your skin. When you spot a big star like building, be sure to enter it for food par excellence.
